The focus of this chapter has been on understanding how the will and plan of Elohim God for our life, is so much more superior to our own and that it is designed to bless us. It has also looked at how when we reject His path and go our own way we inevitably end up in pain of some sort. The Bible repeatedly talks of the danger of sin, disobedience and rebellion to our well-being, so to conclude the chapter I would ask you to meditate on the scripture and answer the reflection questions which follow.
My son, do not forget my teaching,
but let your heart keep my commandments,
for length of days and years of life
and peace they will add to you.
Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good success
in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.
(Proverbs 3:1-8 ESV)
- The scripture above outlines a simple truth, when we rely on God to direct our movements and are obedient to His voice, we receive His Shalom. Can you see this truth manifested in your own life and walk with God?
- Think about the areas that you know you are disobedient in, you know what they are because He has whispered them to you whenever you feel like your back is up against the wall. When He says, ‘acknowledge Me, let Me take control, do not be wise in your own eyes, depart from evil’ what does this mean to you?
- What was the consequence of not listening to His voice? Can you think of a recent example in your life? Do you think that this disobedience was wilful and purposeful or accidental and out of your control? Think back over previous examples and ask yourself the same questions, be honest with yourself and then look over the meditation verse again.
I pray for your child, I pray that they may be able to see and accept that there have been times when they have deliberately and purposefully disregarded your voice and commands and have walked their own path for various reasons. But Abba, Your Word tells us that listening to you frees us and enables us to live in a state of shalom (security, peace, health, safety etc.). Lord, I pray that you will begin to work on those areas of their life which cause them to wilfully disobey You and which prevent them from experiencing the wholeness that You so much desire for us. (please feel free to add your own words now)
We pray in the mighty name of Your Son, Yahushua HaMashiach, Jesus the Messiah. Amen.
