Bible promises for overcoming fear

When fear takes a hold and the thought of your days seems to overwhelm you, here are a few promises to hold onto instead.

Isaiah 40: 31 – But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint

Job 17:9 Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger.

Psalm 103: 2-5 – Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:who forgives all thine iniquities; who heals all thy diseases;who redeems thy life from destruction; who crowns thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; who satisfies thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 61: 2 – From the end of the earth will I cry unto you, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 18: 2 – The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Psalm 27: 1 – The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 18: 28 – For you will light my lamp: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

Psalm 46: 1-3 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

Isaiah 33: 2 – O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for you: be our arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble. ESV

Isaiah 41: 10 – Fear not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Micah 7: 8 – Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

Habakkuk 3: 19 – The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like deer’s feet, and he will make me walk upon my high places.

Today started off as one of those days when the thought of starting the day overwhelmed me  (I hate those days), all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball, pull the duvet up over my head and sleep all the pain and discomfort away.   The thought of doing anything was too much and I couldn’t even find the energy to pray as I usually do, but that’s when I knew that I needed to do something to bring me back into the Shalom of God so I just spoke to Him as I sat wrapped up in the duvet on my bed and told Him how I felt.  There where birds singing outside of my window, I love listening to them particularly this one species with such an amazing song, they were singing today in the midst of my hurt and it was like God was saying to me, ‘ look How I bring delight and peace to these birds’.  That’s when I remembered this song from my old convent school days which I would like to share with you.

Praying that if you are in a place of fear today that you experience the Shalom of God when you hold on to His Word.
